How to research keywords for your website correctly

There are 3 step for the best keywords research for the website. Lets start with "Google Plan":

  1. Google keyword tool - Enter main keyword in "Keyword variations tab"

  2. Note down the keywords with decent search volume

  3. Choose the broadest possible term on your vertical market

  4. Determine 10 high demand keywords

  5. Look for high amount of searches a day through the "search volume bar"

  6. Eliminate the words that are not relevant

  7. Drill into this keywords up to a few levels deep.So have potentially 3 Sub-Categories under a major category

  8. Focus less on general keywords in Sub-Categories, and focusing on building the content around the longer descriptive keywords. This will help give better rankings with general keywords.

Next step is "Overture tool":

  1. Use Overture.com to find out possible estimated keyword searches.

  2. Note down all keywords searches next to major keywords found in Google results.

  3. Drill into each core term found above in Google and Keyword Companion research tool.

  4. Note down all keywords that you want to do further research on in an excel sheet.

  5. Focus less on general keywords in Sub-Categories, and focusing on building the content around the longer descriptive keywords. This will help give better rankings with general keywords.

An excellent step is to finish off your work:

  1. Themezoom.com

  2. Consolidate your decisions from the other 2 tools by looking at the search volumes.

  3. Enter the major keyword in "parent theme" and your proposed category or sub-category in "keyword"

  4. The paid version automates quite a bit of this first step, however is a big learning curve, and for now best working out these steps before going into the tool.

  5. Focus less on general keywords in Sub-Categories, and focusing on building the content around the longer descriptive keywords. This will help give better rankings with general keywords. Enjoy!!!
